Would you pay more for less?

Heck no!

I can’t imagine how difficult it must be to choose a moving company. How could anyone possibly ever make sense of multiple estimates from moving companies. There are so many movers and moving companies to choose from and so many different choices to make when you move – it must be maddening. Even I (with over 37 years moving company experience) can not believe the wide range of pricing and moving services offered – it must be maddening for the person who moves only once every now and then.

I had a recent similar experience. I was charged with finding and obtaining cost estimates from a builder to remodel our family home. The first builder was a referral from a friend. The renovation company was a mid-sized highly rated firm. One of the owners came out to meet with us. He looked at our house and talked with us and quickly sized up and understood our situation. He took some extra time to talk with us and offered suggestions and services. He was a good salesperson after my own heart – he said many of the same things that I might say to you during one of my estimates – everything made sense.

When the estimate arrived, I was impressed with the presentation and the detailed scope of work. Then we saw the price – OUCH! The price was significantly more than we could have ever expected. In trying to understand the pricing we started adding things up. We discovered that the price could be even higher and this was without making any of the inevitable changes that come with construction. It was so much more in fact that we felt that we needed to get at least one more price as a reality check.

For our second price, we talked with the father of one of our kid’s 6th grade friends who was in that business. His price was nearly one-half of our original big company proposal.

To boot, we couldn’t figure out how either company arrived at their prices – nor could they really explain how they based their numbers. It was all a mystery

I guess our choice was obvious – why should you pay for the big name company when you can get the job done for half the price? Price is important but it is important to remember that when you choose your contractor (or your mover) you are locked in to your choice and the program you selected. Just like remodeling, if the scope of work for the job changes, so can the price.

With Around Town Movers, we work to provide you with an accurate estimate with a simple and understandable pricing structure. We realize that plans can change and that life can get in the way from the time of the original moving estimate. For the most part, we work to stay within the original pricing as much as possible. We want your moving company business – call us today for a free moving estimate.
