When people think about moving, the first things that come to mind are getting all their belongings organized and finding reliable local movers to help them start the process. What many people don’t talk about, however, is that moving also involves a certain amount of paperwork. The documents and contracts involved in moving are often overlooked, but they are equally important aspects of moving.
Getting this step finished as soon as possible will give you more time to focus on other important parts of your move. Here are some of the essential paperwork that comes with the process of moving.
Once you’ve selected a moving company to help you move, you will be given either an estimate or a quote. An estimate is a preliminary assessment of how much the whole move will set you back. This is different from a quote, which is a far more detailed version of the estimate. Quotes can also become a contract if they are signed by the parties involved. You want to keep copies of your quote for when it’s time to settle the finances of your move.
As soon as you’ve agreed on a quote for the job, your movers will also issue an Order for Service. This document will show you all the details about the moving service, including but not limited to the date and time of the move, the vehicles that will be used, all accessories and equipment that may be needed, and even a clause for cancelling the service.
Your movers will also take inventory of all the boxes that you have for the move. Inventory can be classified into regular and high-value inventories, which includes high-value items, such as paintings and high-tech appliances.
