How to Efficiently Pack Your Electronics for an Office Move

Moving to a new office space can be overwhelming for many employees and managers. It can be exciting, but the fact that you have to pack fragile electronic devices, such as desktops, laptops, printers, scanners and copiers, can be stressful. Some offices may also have light-emitting diode (LED) or multimedia projectors. These gadgets should be packed and moved carefully and efficiently – one wrong move and some of them can be destroyed upon arrival.

Fortunately, professional movers are experts at packing your electronics for your office move. In today’s article, we share tips to help you ensure a safe move for your office electronics.

Remove the Batteries

Before placing them in boxes, remove the batteries from remotes or small accessories. Remember, batteries that overheat, corrode or leak during the office move may wreak havoc on your electronics. To avoid losing them or mixing them up with other things, be sure to pack the batteries with or near their electronics during the move. If your office uses rechargeable batteries, charge them a few days ahead of the moving date.

Box the Electronics

When you get a new electronic device, it’s best to save the original boxes and packaging materials. These will prove handy when repacking items for an office relocation. In case you don’t have them anymore, your office movers may recommend using sturdy boxes and clean paper for wrapping.

Keep the Cords Organized

Many offices often work with wireless electronics. Nevertheless, you may still have to deal with plugs in computers and chargers. For this reason, take the time to tie cables, wire and other connections together with twist ties, or secure each one with a zip tie, elastic band or binder clip. Then, label each cord according to the corresponding electronic device. This way, you will find it easier to set it back up in your new office.

Back up Important Files

Although moving companies will try their best to avoid losing or damaging your electronic device, accidents are sometimes inevitable. Since most digital equipment stores information on a smart card or microchip, consider backing up important information and files before packing your smart devices. You can back them up using a flash drive or external hard drive or cloud storage services such as Google Drive.
