Helpful Packing Tips for Your Electronic Devices

When preparing for a big shift to your new home or apartment, you’ll likely have several electronic devices to pack before moving out. Some of these items are probably expensive, so you need to hire a professional moving company that knows how to handle high-value items. It also helps to take additional precautions to ensure they stay safely intact while they’re in transit.

Getting Ready Before You Move

Before packing all your electronic devices, make sure to plan how you’ll pack them. Consider gathering all the user manuals in one box so that they won’t get lost during the moving process. You should also take out all the batteries and store them in a separate box. This is to prevent overheating and leaking during the moving process. You can also make time to get temporary insurance that covers your belongings during the packing, moving and unpacking process.

Use the Original Packing

Many professional movers recommend saving the original packing for electronic devices. This is because these will already have pre-formed foam pieces and inserts that keep the items protected during shipping. This makes them more than ideal for packing and storage! But if you’re weren’t able to keep the original packing of your devices, you can always get boxes with Styrofoam packing peanuts. This helps hold the items safe during transit.

Protect/Label Your Electronics

Whether you’re packing your electronics for moving or long-term storage, consider wrapping them with a layer of bubble wrap as added protection. For appliances, such as portable air purifiers and window-mounted air conditioners, tape a piece of paper over the fans and vents. This is to keep unwanted particles from getting into your devices. Don’t forget to label your electronics so that you know where they’re packed. We recommend using small colored stickers and felt-tip markers to easily label them.
