Tips on Moving Oversized Furniture Through a Narrow Door

Moving oversized furniture is a problem many people face when they move to a new home or office, or when they just want to transfer the furniture to another room. Transporting a couch, kitchen table or dresser can be difficult, especially when you take into account how narrow your doors are. Even so, there are many ways to maneuver the furniture to make it fit. All it takes is a little bit of creativity.

Around Town Movers, your reputable apartment and office movers in the area, share tips on how you can pull off this task with little or no stress.

Measure the Opening

When you move oversized furniture through a narrow space like your doorway, hallway or stairway, you must first determine the amount of space in these areas. Take measurements when you can. Be sure that the fixture you’ll be moving can fit into its new home.

Measure the Furniture

Do the same for the furniture you’re taking out. A couch, for instance, must have a back height measurement that is less than the width. In turn, the width of the couch must be greater than that of the door. That way, you can turn the couch over with its back facing up so that it can slide through.

Remove the Door

You can remove the door from its hinges to make room. Have a toolkit close by before or during the moving day to unscrew the attachments. Alternatively, you can seek help from your apartment movers for this.

Check if the Furniture Can Be Disassembled

Find out if you can disassemble your furniture. Another advantage of disassembly is you can reduce the weight of these heavy objects to make your transfer less stressful.

Of course, the best way for a hassle-free and successful move is to tap the expertise of Around Town Movers.
