Priorities in Packing: Which Room Should I Pack First?

Packing is usually the most tedious part of the move to a new home. Luckily, you can make it a lot easier by knowing which rooms to prioritize.

Take Inventory of Your Home

This might seem like an unnecessary task, but trust us, it will be worth your time. Making an inventory of all your belongings will help you get rid of the non-essentials.

Some homeowners think doing so would be such a waste. But keeping unwanted furniture may end up costing you more. After all, it takes more time to pack heavy items like pieces of furniture and appliances. Transporting them will also consume more gas.

Get Rid of Clutter

After taking inventory, find out how often you use a certain item. Write down notes beside each item. If you haven’t used something in more than three years, it may be time to get rid of it or donate it to a charity or a thrift shop. Otherwise, these items will just take up valuable space in your new home.

Prioritize Packing the Rooms That Are Used the Least and the Hardest to Pack

After deciding on which items you’ll keep, it’s time to start packing. It would be a good idea to start with the least frequently used room, which is usually the hardest to pack.

It would make sense not to pack the rooms you use the most like your bedroom and bathroom, for example, if the actual move is still a few days away. And, since you started with the hardest room to pack, you won’t be too tired on the day of the actual move. If you just don’t have the time, however, there is another way you can make the move to your new home easier – hire one of your local movers.

Furniture, appliances and vases need to be handled with care, so it would be a good idea to hire an experienced moving company.
