Moving is often an exciting and challenging milestone for every homeowner. Amid the hustle and bustle of activities, it’s important to keep your cool and ensure every piece of your furniture arrives intact. This feat may be tricky, especially since you probably have fragile items that may be difficult to pack.
Today’s article from your moving company, Around Town Movers, aims to address this particular issue. Here are ways you can pack fragile items when moving.
Gather Packing Materials
Before anything else, gather the packing supplies. For this task, you need ample amounts of sturdy cardboard, tape and bubble wrap. You may use scissors to cut the tape, but the process will be easier and less prone to tape wastage if you invest in a tape gun. It doesn’t have to be fancy – a simple, practical tape gun will do.
Packing Process
Work on a low, flat surface. The floor will actually be the ideal work area for packing fragile items since there is little to no risk of the object falling and breaking. Lay the item flat on the cardboard and cut the board, leaving a perimeter of two to three inches around the actual item. For cardboard that is a bit difficult to cut using scissors, consider using a precision knife.
Wrap the item using the smooth side of the bubble wrap. Place the item in the middle of the cardboard, and seal with tape. Many movers provide boxes. Don’t forget to mark these boxes as fragile.
Extra Measures
Once you’ve individually packed the fragile items, you can still wrap them in a soft material like cloth before putting them in the box. This way, the material can act as an extra cushion to prevent hairline cracks from forming on your fragile possessions. Keep other important documents, cash and valuables with you during the move.
