Objects You Should Not Pack When Moving

One of the most important tasks you need to do before your move is to determine the items you shouldn’t pack. There are certain items that movers will not move because of safety concerns. By disposing or dealing with these items, you will make your move more efficient. Around Town Movers, one of the leading movers in our area, talks about the some of the items you shouldn’t pack before moving:

  • Plants – Many plants are fragile and delicate, so they will not survive being packed and transported in a moving truck. In addition, there is a possibility for plant parasites to be transferred from your current area to your new location. This is why moving companies are not allowed to transport plants. We recommend giving your plants to your friends or donating them to hospitals, schools or nursing homes.
  • Food – As a professional moving company, we strongly recommend consuming or giving away your perishable food before your move. All types of fresh, refrigerated or frozen food can spoil while on the road. It’s not worth the risk, so we suggest giving your remaining food to your neighbors or donating them to a food bank.
  • Hazardous Materials – These are items that are explosive, flammable or corrosive. You should never pack these items for transport. Example items include charcoal, antifreeze, acids, aerosol cans, fire extinguishers, fireworks, poisons, propane tanks, motor oil, liquor, lamp oil, acids and more. Before your move, you should get in touch with your moving company and request their list of things that are not allowed.

In addition to our moving services, we can provide storage and packing supplies. We can also assist our customers with pre-move preparations and post-move organization.
