For all the excitement it brings, relocating can also present certain challenges. One particular challenge involves your belongings and the damage that may incur when moving. Today’s article from Around Town Movers aims to list the four items most likely to be damaged during your move. Your preferred moving company will also share tips on how you can protect these items from that fate.
1. Breakables
Fragile items, such as wine decanters and expensive glassware and plates, are unfortunately some of the top items to get damaged during a relocation. A key factor in keeping your precious dinnerware and mirrors from breaking is packaging. Invest in high-quality bubble wrap and other packaging materials. To save space and cut back on costs, you may use your linen and towels as an extra cushion for the packing boxes.
2. Liquids in Bottles
When not sealed properly, liquid cleaning supplies can leak during the move. At the very least, they are a nuisance to clean during unpacking. At their worst, leaked cleaning supplies can damage other contents of the box. To avoid wasting product, remove the cap from the bottle, and wrap a piece of plastic over the opening. Close the bottle cap tightly over the plastic. Do this for all the bottles.
As a rule, you should never pack flammable liquids. Check with your hired movers for the complete list of liquids you can include during the move.
3. Lamp Shades
Due to their unusual shape, lamp shades are often victimized by the moving process. The good news is that there is a way to protect your lamp shade from getting damaged. Cover every inch with bubble wrap, and fill its interior cavity with packing paper. Don’t use paper with writings on it as the ink might rub off on the lamp shade. Put it in a box, and make sure you have an adequate amount of packing paper surrounding your lamp shade.
Take care not to put anything on top of the lamp shade during the move. You should instead place it where it’s secure. You may ask your movers to see to this setup.
4. Books
It all boils down to proper packaging. Don’t pack your books too tightly. Make sure paperbacks have ample spine support. Otherwise, just lay them flat, and don’t pack them upright. Following these tips will help reduce the risks of wrinkled pages and damaged covers.
