Moving to a new state can be quite a stressful and exhausting task. Aside from looking for a new home and hunting for a moving company to help you move, there’s also the added worry of your mail. You might be concerned that your mail may not arrive at your new location, especially the bills and important packages. Fortunately, there are ways to get around this.
In this post, Around Town Movers discusses how you can make sure your future bills, packages and letters arrive safe and sound at your new location.
Update Your Mailing Address
Movers will tell you this should always be your starting point. You can visit the United States Postal Service (USPS) to have your mailing address updated. Once done, they’ll automatically forward all your mail to your new address for the next six months. You can have your mailing address updated via online or by phone for $1, or visit in person and fill out Form 3575.
Update the Social Security Administration (SSA)
If you’re already receiving social security retirement or other government benefits, you’ll have to change your address with the SSA to receive these benefits. Do this as soon as possible to avoid any errors as they may come with sensitive information that can be used to steal your identity.
Revise Billing Address
Inform your bank and other utility companies of your change in addresses so you can make sure your bills arrive on time. If you’re lucky, these companies will allow you to update your address online. That way, you don’t miss any needed payments for the month.
