A lot of homeowners would agree that moving is both an exciting and stressful thing to do. You could be flustered with all of the stuff that you’ll have to organize, the way it disrupts your routine and the clutter you’ll leave behind. In fact, studies show that clutter could actually lead to more stress. So, we share three tips to keep your home clutter-free while moving.
When you’re moving, you’ll have deadlines to meet, which could result in things being out of place. When you’re busy organizing all of your belongings, things like the mail, deliveries and even clutter like your kids’ toys can be forgotten. Before you know it, your place could be piling up with clutter if you don’t get on top of it. Try to tidy up clutter for at least five to seven minutes every night. You can even ask your partner and your children to help to speed up the process. You’ll be surprised how much you can organize within that span of time, and, before you know it, you can keep clutter from building up.
One of the biggest causes of clutter is the boxes you’re preparing before the moving day. While this is inevitable, it’s no excuse to leave a ton of cardboard lying around your home. Remember a tip from your professional movers, the fewer boxes you have, the less clutter you’ll have. Take this brief opportunity to think about what you’ll really want to bring over to your new home. Think about how you’ll use these items and what purpose they serve for you and your family. This can help you decide whether that item you’re holding is essential to pack or not.
If you think that you have too much clutter, maybe it’s time for you to rent a storage unit. You can put your unused items in your garage or the attic since this makes your home more presentable to prospective buyers. Storage facilities offer short-, medium- and long-term leases so you can store your items for as long as you want depending on your needs. If you just need temporary storage before you settle into your new home, a short-term lease would suffice. However, if you’re unsure where to put your old items, then a long-term lease is for you.
